Marais, Contemporary living in a Parisian Retreat

Project type: Pied a terre
150 sq m
Renovation, decoration, and turn-key project

Transforming this 150-square-meter pied-à-terre in the heart of Le Marais was an exceptional experience. Situated within a 17th-century hôtel particulier, the apartment combines Parisian heritage with contemporary sophistication, offering a serene retreat for a Canadian couple seeking a blend of history and modern comfort.

Dating back to 1660, the hôtel particulier retains heritage-listed features, including an 18th-century entrance door, intricate wrought ironwork, and a grand courtyard staircase. These historic elements were carefully preserved and seamlessly integrated into the design, celebrating the building’s storied past while enhancing its functionality.

The design approach focused on natural materials—timber, jute, wool, heavy tumbled linens, and marble—to complement the apartment’s original architectural details. These textures, paired with subtle modern interventions, created a timeless yet inviting atmosphere that feels effortlessly Parisian.

Months of careful planning allowed for a smooth transformation, culminating in a brief installation period to bring every detail together. The result is a sophisticated and tranquil space, perfectly tailored to the couple’s needs, offering comfort and beauty for family gatherings and entertaining guests.

This project stands as a harmonious blend of historical character and contemporary design, a reflection of the care and precision that define our approach to Paris apartment transformations.
